Danielle Lemaire (1967, Breda) creates drawings, paintings, performances, and sound works; she releases books, records and other sound carriers on her own label Inner Landscapes, and she organizes exhibitions and live events.
In any medium she uses, Danielle creates work in a concentrated, sensitive manner, in which duration plays an important role. This time investment gives the work a layered quality and ‘brings it to life’.
The drawings and paintings usually contain subjects such as ’empty’ interiors in which a human presence is suggested: shadows of human life, or a vision. Also, the image can be populated with people; a portrait or self-portrait, people to whom a specific memory is connected, or anonymous people in a séance-like setting.
In early 2015, Danielle worked for three months in a 17th century house in Dordrecht, where she made an art installation and released a full colour riso printed book – stencilled at Knust Press – with a 10″ vinyl record on which a musical radio play can be heard: ‘PORTRAIT OF A HOUSE’.
In September 2015 Lemaire did a residency in Pécsbagota, Hungary, where she made a large drawing entitled: ‘Drawing Is Stepping Into A New Zone Where Time Does Not Get Lost’.
Danielle Lemaire and Jordy Koevoets will share a booth on This Art Fair. They work and live in the same city: Breda. They are triggered by each other’s work and differences, which brings them together from time to time. For This Art Fair they will join forces and create a new tension in which absurdity meets subtleness.
