Van Rijn & Van Soest: Scaping landscapes

The collaboration between Frederique van Rijn, the photographer, and Meinbert Gozewijn van Soest, the draftsman, began in 2017.

The idea for this collaboration grew from the recognition and appreciation of one another’s work. The similarities in their related work, and the presence of the maker in the periphery of the pictured environment – not always that obvious –, set off as a series of experiments.

The starting point is a photograph by Van Rijn, which Van Soest then literally draws upon. Because of the symbiosis between these two artists, the individual work of the photograph and the drawing flow together, resulting in a pictured whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
