Forgotten news articles form the basis for Guy Vording’s drawings and collages. From piles of old newspapers, magazines and books, he searches very selectively for themes that usually relate to events involving the loss of control. This gave rise, amongst other things, to the series of collages called ‘Nobody wants to hear the truth at Christmas’. The compilation of old news photos from different periods forms a new but intangible scene. The found image does not have to literally show that moment of panic, quite the contrary; Vording finds it interesting when he himself slowly introduces that subject of loss of control. By searching, pushing, cutting and combining, he gives the calamity its own form. The viewer must have the feeling of having entered the scene either just too soon or just too late.
