Artist statement

Our society is full of bullshit. The media are filled with nonsense news, misleading advertisements and silly entertainment shows. Megastores are packed with deco stuff, trash, junk and fake art. We all have the biggest television hanging on our walls with countless TV channels; what happens next door – we don’t know. To satisfy our needs, we want more and more.

In practice, I pick up banalities from the outside world and bring them to my studio. I try to overact their banal character. The outcome: a destroyed portrait of a bored and boring world celebrity, an outspoken one-liner, and so on. Direct like an uppercut. It’s a charming game I play with the outside world, – an inspiring world I love and hate at the same time.

Since my graduation at AKV St. Joost Breda in 2011, I have participated in various solo and group shows: Roodkapje Rotterdam, Moira Utrecht, Concordia Enschede and Kunst-Torentje Almelo. My work was part of group exhibitions in Teekengenootschap Pictura, during Incubate/BKKC, and at SBK Dordrecht, amongst other places. In 2014 my first artistic publication was aired, in cooperation with the popular website mokkels.nl.

Danielle Lemaire and I work and live in the same city, Breda. We are triggered by each other’s work and differences, which brings us together from time to time. For This Art Fair we will join forces and create a new tension in which absurdity meets subtleness.
