Time, space and existence are at the core of all my work. Motor and motivation behind all my projects is this unexplainable feeling of missing something that never existed. Joke Hermsens’ “healthy melancholy”.Lacking the necessary verbale language, I turned to photography to evoke the emotion of the things I lost, but never owned, touched or dreamed off.
Since 2016 I work on a project called “Accidental Enchantments” – images perhaps from memory, possibly from photo albums of those days. This work will result in a book, which is scheduled for the end of this year. The book launch hopefully at ThisArtFair.
Many people know my earlier work – the interiors from Russia and China. Much less attention received the work I made afterwards. In 2012 I started traveling alone, walking old trails in Nepal, Japan, Australia and Tibet – two ultralight pinhole camera’s in my backpack. These landscape series are handprinted with a spectacular, self-invented method, using a bw- and color negatives in one print.
On ThisArtFair I show prints from the book – in dry ink on special paper. Next to photographs from walks in Japan, Australia and Tibet – 2013-2016.
