Artist statement

I believe that by using egg tempera I can lift out a person’s strength and vulnerability in a portrait. Egg tempera is well known from the Italian frescoes and Russian icons. Tempera is handmade paint from yolk, water en colour pigments; every single colour carefully stirred. The absolute pureness and brightness of the colours and the silk matte skin of the paint highly contribute to my paintings. My aim is to unveil pure individuality. I paint portraits of people of all ages, often surrounded by precious items: things that represent a memory, people’s pets, beautifully patterned fabrics, tiles, all sorts of flowers, mushrooms, insects….. all in order to reveil collective consciousness and emotion.
