We are a collaborating duo, who graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2016. We consider our work as a study within the painter’s practise, distinguishing ourselves from the traditional painting practise by using architectural construction elements such as tiles. For us, these standardized elements function literally as building blocks to construct a painter’s work, to which we introduce sculpture. On the one hand, we treat these elements as completely autonomous, by using them as composition elements that form part of a completely new work. On the other hand, we keep these elements true to their origin,  (1) by treating them like they are usually treated – e.g., we use glaze on tiles instead of paint -, and (2) by referring to their decorative origin. In this way, we build a bridge between autonomous art and the applied field. Boundaries are being crossed between artist, designer, and handyman.
