Marjolein Schalk is a visual artist and illustrator. She gets inspired by fifties magazines, books and B-films. Her colourful paintings, drawings and prints are the result of observations of daily life where deplorable scenes are caught with a sense of humour.
Schalk has made several books with her partner in crime Jeroen de Leijer.
Together with Jeroen de Leijer and S. Lloyd Trumpstein is she the founder of the Wobby.club.
This thematic magazine Wobby appears four times a year printed on their own Risograph Duplicator.
Beside publishing their own work, Wobby.club invites artists and writers, proven as well as upcoming talent, to contribute new work. The magazine straddles the edges of art, illustration and literature.
Artists and writers that contributed to Wobby are among others Daan Botlek, Vincent Dams, Paul Faassen, Danielle Lemaire, Stijn Peeters, Jip Piet, Roos Vlogman, Nyk de Vries and Sigrid van Woudenberg.
The Risoprinter allows Schalk to experiment and make new steps in her work. At the same time she is challenged to translate the work of the other Wobby artists in high quality Risograph printing.
