Artist statement

Objects, medical specimens, ethnographic objects, found objects, dead animals, quotes, drawings, texts, and a photo archive. The Museum of Relics is a collection of things which have something to convey about the connection between eternity and transitoriness. This does not have to be taken all too seriously; it presents rather a playful approach to the problem of immortality. The Museum of Relics functions as a ‘personal reference collection’. It is an investigation into the relation between (emotional) meaning, form, and material. I draw ‘In Memoriam’ portraits, and also create commissioned portraits. Sometimes I make memorials on request. In my free work, a portrait functions as a means rather than as an end in itself; instead of depicting the appearance of a certain person, it may represent inner being as well as human nature.
