Michael Berkhemer’s work originates in the tradition of purity and soberness which has characterized Dutch painting for centuries. Using a variety of techniques, and working with a range of materials, he strives for a balance between form and colour, reason and emotion. Without intending to imitate natural forms, he seeks to represent the emotional impact of nature and visual reality in all its manifestations.
In addition to paintings, Berkhemer (1948) also makes wall sculptures. He regularly visits St. Louis (U.S.A.) where he works on his printed oeuvre of large-sized collagraphs (monoprints). He exhibits his work nationally and internationally and has worked on many commissions for (semi-) public spaces.
