Hiking is an essental part of how I work. It is also an important starting point to get a grip on my surroundings. What the primer means to a painting is what hiking means to my artwork. The openness shown in my work is reminiscent of a universal recognition that I find in nature. While hiking I see the purity of my surroundings; however, the reason and impact of that surrounding come afterwards. My work is already teetering, it has not fully revealed itself yet. It is revealed by retiring to the site repeatedly. In that repetition the relationship is slowly built. As an artist I know exactly how to balance two extremes, transferring the unpolished forces of nature into a malleable image. Without using words, I reach the essence of my work by opening myself up completely.
