Work by Oskar Nilsson is shown on This Art Fair by galerie with tsjalling:, booth G13

The paintings, etchings and drawings by Swedish artist Oskar Nilsson tell strange stories. They seem to be illustrations of obscure fairy tales or folk tales, in which strange midgets, voluptuous women and black cats predominate. The background of dreary forests and gritty rooms reinforces a sense of unease.

According to the American Art News website the work of Nilsson is ‘impressively amateurish and incompetent’, a remark that can be seen as a compliment for the candour of the work. The paintings, that are full of black humour, are painted casually at high speed in wet-on-wet technique by Nilsson. It adds momentum and vibrancy to the canvases. His drypoint etchings and drawings get their intensity from lots of detail and a strong chiaroscuro effect. They show that Oskar Nilsson is lord and master of his dark worlds.
