The work of S. Lloyd Trumpstein (Antwerp 1969) testifies to a great versatility. His applied graphic work (illustrations, silkscreen, poster- and book design) and books – ‘those paper bearers of graphic freedom’ – are characterized by a sardonic sense of humour.
In his architectural paintings, often inspired by his fascination for the unintentional ugliness of  contemporary (Flemish) architecture, he is seeking a balance between realistic and abstract elements. Besides those semi-realistic works he seems almost obsessed by formal abstract art and optical special illusions. In these abstract paintings Trumpstein is searching for, among other things, visual harmony and a quiet but poignant poetry. Though never all too obvious, an anarchistic kind of criticism on contemporary society is never far away.
Together with Jeroen de Leijer and Marjolein Schalk he is founder of the Wobby.club.
