“My body is (not) a hotel”

LOVE HOTEL is an installation by Simone Engelen. It consists of a bed in a capsule. The walls are filled with diary fragments, parts of broken mirrors and explicit images. Quotes from her diary are embroidered on top of a blanket. The installation symbolizes her body, and addresses misogyny and sexism in our media controlled society. It’s an invitation to come inside. Lying down you hear the sound of her breath. LOVE HOTEL is an introspective, obsessive and at times destructive struggle. A work on coping with a sexual trauma, transforming pain into power.
