Suzie van Staaveren’s refreshing take on sculptures and positive energy makes her work unique and accessible. The aesthetically pleasing works, made of various materials, are inviting and playful. The objects she creates cannot be captured in a single category: they float in between different possible purposes. For example, a stack of coloured, glazed bricks becomes a three-dimensional painting, in which the composition is subject to change. This change and rearrangement through intervention of both the public and forces of nature is characteristic of her work. One of her installations includes sculptures that are attached to a wall with suction cups which will eventually fall to the floor. This playful way of dealing with external factors, without letting chance take the upper hand, demonstrates her perfect sense of form and space.
