Vincent Uilenbroek

Ghost Image#2

Vincent Uilenbroek places minor traces from his studio in a new context. The hierarchy is distorted. By integrating the traces with frames, he lends appreciation and meaning to the remnant forms. Essentially, Uilenbroek’s work is about the process of painting and everything that occurs around that. Images that are generally considered the residue of the process form the starting point for a new abstract visual language. The remnant forms on the studio wall, for example. Materials that he works with, such as templates, sheets and painters tape, inadvertently acquire a scenic quality. Subconscious compositions are framed, and thereby become dominant. Each time the emphasis lies on the area within or outside the frames. A white surface suggests the absence of a painting that has remained as a negative in that space. Uilenbroek takes an approach that can be summarized in terms of minimalist abstraction, graffiti, process and installation art.
