Through observations in and outside factories, I copy materials and techniques used in the processing industry, recreating and adapting them. I enlarge conveyor systems, use pneumatics within my sculptures or industrial lubricant to paint with. The sculptures and installations that stem from these methods appeal to me as autonomous entities. With this methodology, somewhere within the proces I partly lose control over these installations. Some works destroy themselves through their functioning anatomy, while other installations are unpredictable. Throughout this decrease of authority and the loss of control within the process, I create space for tension and fear.

These seemingly soulless yet lively devices / machines as seen in the factories, are built for speed and inhuman precision, are responsible for our pristine products which we consume. I want to show this bleak, alienated and yet fearsome history of all that surrounds us as it is part of us and defines us in our modern life.

At This Art Fair I will share a booth with Micha Prinsen.
