Arthur Cordier and Vincent Knopper first met in 2019 and have been exchanging thoughts and insights on their shared interests in the socio-economical construction of our urban spaces. They are particularly interested in the relations between labour and standardisation, the aesthetics of administration, visual communication and ultimately, obsolescence. Their exhibition in four parts is presented for the first time at This Art Fair.
Arthur presents a selection of newly framed works, which were made during a residency at la Biennale de l’Image Possible in Luik, Belgium. These pieces are paintings, using heavy-duty tarpaulin, adhesive vinyl, tape and various office and domestic inks. They convey a rather oddly stained, smeared feeling, but also remain somehow attractive, gentle and intentional.
Vincent presents a new series of painting-like high gloss panels, which are slightly brushed with an orbital sander to create subtle drawings. These works are accompanied by a group of blue elongated handrail-like tube sculptures, which are, as a series, loosely based on a sentence written in shorthand writing.
