My work focuses on the human tendency to defuse our fundamental fear and uncertainty with a system.
It is an attempt to control the world around us, which comes from a deep need for order, or the illusion of control. This tendency to frame reality in a system or grid is reflected in different levels. It is anchored in our thinking: we divide the world around us into categories and use rational constructions to define differences and make connections.
This shapes our world in a concrete sense: from spreadsheets to city planning and landscape architecture. Many culturally determined, applied expressions are based on a linear kind of thinking: the straight line and the grid are building blocks of our culture.
His work is a visual investigation in each I question how this linear culture relates to the physical reality of the world around us.
