I paint scenes of public spaces on monumental wooden environments. Wood is something to build on, I like its metaphoric values to relate to the underlying political background of the theme I’m working with.

Politics I like to depict from a historical perspective, from the foundation; the roots. I emphasise heritage, its symbolism and ornaments. I incorporate a manner of sculpting to enhance the ornamental and materialistic characteristics.

By painting a scene manifesting itself around the wooden environment, on a wooden surface, it becomes imaginary as well as literal. It takes me closer to the essence and provides a sense of credibility. I see it as sense of hyperrealism.

I like to maintain a sense of mystique and hints of something abstract, as a consequence of the abstract world we’re in. A tension and a parallel between applying and erasing.
