Coots, Monobloc chairs, handkerchiefs, dust mites and fireplaces all seem trapped in impenetrable realities. Collecting these kinds of things helps Chantal to penetrate and understand the realities they are in. Collected in matter or worked out in for instance epoxy resin, the things form sculptures. With these sculptures Chantal builds installations in which the things make weird, unexpected connections. By using personal experiences such as the watering of her stick insects, or the impossibility of communication with the dust mite in her mattress, she easily translates large, transcendental subjects in the more manageable immanent.
