My work is an ever-growing collection of ceramic vessels. Handbuilt and decorated with plenty of techniques, they are traditionally shaped while their surface is quite the opposite. Some people say it is cute, clever or even supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, others think of it as seventeenth century with a joke, but I myself tend to aim for a tad more. I like to fantasize about them as vessels in which to preserve our culture and pass it on to future generations. For example:
Unfortunately humans will become sick sad cyborgs that forgot to love, wish and dream. So the far future counterpart of Lara Croft (whose still breathtakingly huge tits now function as oxygen dispensers, Wi-Fi hotspots, rocket launchers and bird feeders- the latter as a playful wink to their native but ever so perverse function) will still tirelessly raid tomb after tomb in pursuit my pots in order to recover the secret and ancient knowledge of the merry game of lust and thrust, for, my pots will then be treasured as fabled fertility symbols.
In short: my work paints a very private, incomplete and untrue picture of our primitive, ignorant and ridiculous times, so that a short while before the world ends they will be able to premiere a movie called: The legend of Chris Rijkchrisrijk.nl
