Every space can tell a story.
People are getting ready – to perform on the big stage or to enjoy the performance. There is anticipation, dedication and excitement. In his photographic work, David de Haan looks for spaces that tell a story; a story of the universal pursuit of happiness. To him, there is always this paradox in human behaviour while trying to find happiness. By setting ambitious goals, people spark energy and passion while at the same time heading for imminent failure and frustration.
David’s ongoing series of pictures show spaces during a rehearsal session by the band. The room is filled with energy, dedication and ambition. But will they make it to the big stage or will they keep spending more time rehearsing than performing? He captures the empty space in front of the big stage, just minutes before the crowd enters the venue, filled with anticipation, hopes and dreams. Will this moment bring them what they are looking for?
In highly detailed typology-like series, David wants his photographs to start telling their story, to go beyond the visible by showing nothing more than the visible.
