A short duo-performance about the duality of wanting to be seen, but at the same time feeling like a doll in a zoo. Denise uses her playful physicality to wonder: how does one become human, animal or even an object? What is necessary to become one or the other, and what are the consequences? She exposes our behaviour in gestural movement and the vulnerability behind it. Trying to be feminine without being objectified and the loneliness that comes along with being seen and not being seen. What do we find if we strip down the layers of eroticism in everyday life? Animals in the zoo, lust and humanity, always coming back to the question: what are we? It speaks about shape and content, and questions image and truth.
Performance Friday 28 December 16:30 en 18:00 & Sunday 30e November 15:30 & 17:00h at the Foyer.
During THIS Art Fair two special performances will take place, carried out by contemporary makers, programmed by artist Merel Noorlander and photographer Sevilay Maria van Dorst (stand 63). The performers – Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and Denise Verschut – present new techniques and perspectives on Erotics, porn and feminism. Both are admired for their powerful performances, visionary concepts and endurance in movement.
Denise Verschut graduated from the Modern Theater Dance department at the Academy for Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam. Besides a modern dancer, she has developed herself as a playing performer/mimer and theatre maker. She focuses on a transparent presence as a performer and the theatrical embodiment related to movement which is raw, articulated and dynamic. Denise looks for a playful and honest approach, which can make things tragic or comic. She made several works of her own in which she combines different diciplines, including the duets of ‘Crybaby’ and ‘Oh Darling’, and worked with different choreographers and directors, such as Krisztina de Chatel, Cecilia Moisio and Giuilio D’Anna.
