As a child, I dreamed of becoming an architect – to design places and spaces where life unfolds. Now, as an artist, I construct and photograph these entire worlds in my studio. ‘Vivarium’ is an ongoing series of socially engaged tableaux that shed light on our human experience. In the creation of these worlds, I fuse my imagination, personal memories and true events into new narratives. Each Episode explores a distinct theme, such as fatherhood & conspiracy theories (Episode 11, ‘Echo Chamber’), modern work environments (Episode 9, ‘Free Delivery’) and racial profiling (Episode 6, ‘On Guard’).
It can take up to five months to complete a single ‘Vivarium’ tableau. Each diorama is presented life-size, in a one-to-one scale, in a window frame, sparking a direct and immersive encounter between the viewer and the subject. I believe stories foster empathy and understanding. By welcoming the viewer to a multitude of worlds, I aim to enhance our capacity for connection and coexistence.
