”The piano doesn’t murder the player, if it doesn’t like the music”, (Dr. Robert Ford in the series Westworld S01E09, 2018).
My work is built out of existing objects and situations. Detached from their previous function and meaning, I reapply, misplace and reuse them. I am looking for unexpected and new phenomena, characteristics or behaviours that result from the interaction between consciously chosen materials. These materials are the residues of prior research into personal interests in both high and popular culture.
As an artist, I assume the role of mediator. I combine the material until a dialogue is created. Hereby I try to work as much as possible from the material itself, which seems to lead a life of its own.
Ideally, my works manifest themselves as one installation. These consist of various interconnected autonomous experiments. As a cheater / matchmaker, I try to pinpoint the synchronicity and proximity between parallel universes.
