In atmospheric and colourful paintings I investigate the interspace between memory, fantasy, feelings and actual imagery. I work primarily with acrylic ink on cotton, where I enjoy the continuous process of making, the balancing between letting the material work and controlling the visual outcome. I often find my inspiration for paintings in literature and films like Paris, Texas (Wim Wenders,1984) and Beau Travail (Claire Denis, 1999).
Although each painting begins with an image I have seen, I use the properties of my materials and coincidences to deviate further and further from the actual image, opening up an atmospheric spectrum. My paintings provide a sense of recognition that speaks more to the mind of the spectato, than to the actual memories from which they originate.
An important part of my work is the passage of time, or elapsed time. In that sense you could say that my work is detached from any notion of time and at the same time is in the center as well.
At This Art Fair I will present new paintings that are inspired by the idea of a future world. I investigate the notion of hiding and being hidden, of an as yet undiscovered world.
