Emmy Bergsma is a drawing artist. She creates both monumental-sized work and intimate drawings. For This Art Fair she will make a selection of her work about nature, and the relationship between humans and plants.

Bergsma’s complex mini-landscapes are new worlds in themselves. Bergsma is fascinated by city weeds growing without limits, but also by the cultured greenery in gardens. Rene Gude once said: “The garden is the combination of nature and the power of thinking”.

Bergsma also draws men working in overgrown surroundings. Archetypes like Adam, the first gardener, living a peaceful life in paradise, him and the plants being equals. Or a totally covered blue-jeans-wearing gardener not noticing that nature is taking over.

Emmy Bergsma studied at the AKI Academy in Enschede. She has exhibited in several museums in The Netherlands and abroad, including the Schiedam Museum, Kampen Museum, Zwolle Museum, Rijksmuseum Twente, and the Amsterdam Westergasfabriek. Emmy Bergsma lives and works in Zwolle.
