Eva van Bemmelen (1993) presents a series of portraits. Fascinated by typography, languages and different writing systems, Eva creates personal reflections inspired by her surroundings and experiences. The paintings shown at This Art Fair depict human characters transformed into letters. The figures adopt postures of discomfort, disqualification, embrace, love and reconciliation.
The series explores personalities, attitudes and human interactions. Eva is an artist with a background in graphic design. Her work centers on the poetic reappreciation of books and the literal characters they contain. “I like to see a book as a three-dimensional exhibition, one that the reader walks through. In all of this, I play with typography: I deconstruct it in order to reconstruct it, allowing it for new interpretations.”
