Have you ever wondered how little we truly notice plants? My work exists at the intersection of science and art, aiming to break plant blindness and raise awareness of our surroundings. I dedicate myself to bringing forgotten plant stories back to life.

I am presenting work from 2023 in which edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms are central. Using alternative photographic techniques, such as phytograms, anthotypes, and cyanotypes, I capture the essence of plants with plant pigments and sunlight. These organic processes encourage a different way of seeing and experiencing.

My work raises the question: “How can we reshape our relationship with plants – beyond their role as food or decoration – within the cultural meanings where humans and plants are intertwined?” It is essential to look beyond the functional role of plants and understand deeper symbolic and cultural connections.

Through my participation in plant medicine ceremonies since 2017, I feel a deep connection with plants, my art, and my Dutch-Surinamese Hindustani heritage. With my work, I want to shed new light on the relationship between humans and plants. Look, smell, and experience – and let yourself be carried into the hidden world of plants.
