Hannah van der Heide discovers ways to transform into different entities through her work to explore empathy. This process unfolds intuitively, as she embodies these characters through sculpture, drawings, sound, and performance – often combined in installations. In doing so, she creates an atmosphere where reality seamlessly intertwines with fictional elements.
In her earlier work ‘Again and again and again’, she transformed into a whirlpool (Eddy) to explore ways of dealing with change. In ‘F*ck it, we’re going to New York’, she became a ballerina in search of her inner child. In ‘Nachtflinter’, she embodied a moth to embrace the nightlife. What’s more to come…?
At This Art Fair, an installation is presented that revolves around mycelium; the underground network of fungal threads. This work reveals the structures of communication between species, demonstrating how organisms care for and collaborate with one another in a non-hierarchical way – offering valuable lessons to be learned.
Hannah van der Heide’s work invites participants into a temporary experience where empathy, play and wonder converge. The viewer, listener or participant becomes part of a shared space in which methods are explored to experience the environment with greater love, attention and sensitivity. <3
