Painted in an intuitive manner, Jonas Raps’ work develops from a process of searching, in which Raps strives to steer his painting towards an interesting image. The resulting work is situated on the boundary between figuration and abstraction, where spatial illusion meets clearly visible painterly gestures. A revisit to oil paint, after a period of working solely with egg tempera, demands different solutions, forcing the work into a new direction.
