Joseph Hughes, London 1986, is a conceptual designer and visual artist who challenges perceptions and questions authenticity by placing familiar objects, cultural symbols and everyday materials in a new context.

He combines ready-made sculpture, assemblage, conceptualism and design. Objects gain new significance through strategic displacement, inviting viewers to navigate between subjective memories and universal symbols. By using elements with inherent cultural “charge,” Joseph critiques and explores how language, scale and semiotics shape meaning and public perception.

The artwork ‘Work in Progress’ consists of a 20-sided ball, built entirely from stolen and borrowed road signs. It flips symbols of control into a structure of defiance. Instead of warning to stop, these signs now invite movement formed from what was meant to obstruct. It rejects rigid, bureaucratic structures in favor of something temporary and always in flux. At This Art Fair, ‘Work in Progress’ stands as both a provocation and a possibility. It is never finished and always under reconstruction.
