How do you prevent an experience from slipping away? It always morphs, melts, dissolves, and transforms into something new.
This constant evolution is a central theme in my work. I create paintings that use nostalgia as a starting point, reimagining moments from past works, my studio, and other settings. I recycle these memories through a combination of printing and painting techniques, giving them new life. In this process, I seek a balance between figuration and abstraction.
For example, in Past Lives Revisited, I gathered photos of my old studios and combined them into a collage. I then transferred the collage to canvas using the cyanotype process. My goal was to disconnect the photos from their original context, allowing the shapes and forms to exist independently and live a life of their own. Still, even as they evolve, I believe the original stories — the different chapters of my studio life — remain embedded in the work, giving it a kind of “soul.”
