As a former musician, collaborating has heavily influenced my way of making and thinking about making. The spirit of collectivity is hard to shake off after having played in a bunch of bands for many years. Before you realise it, there is a whole micro-culture with its own language, inside jokes, values and tastes. The paintings I am showing at This are a testimony to this specific type of togetherness.

I am part of performance art collective Broken Toaster Records. I transfer footage of my performances to canvas and I paint over them. I aim to show something that was there, but is unphotographable: the spirit of the moment. I also use the picture as an excuse: a starting point for a new painting. Something that tells its own story and contains its own weird beauty.

Kasper van Moll (1992, Nijmegen NL) graduated from ArtEZ Arnhem with a BA in Fine Arts in 2016. He received his MFA at Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam in 2020. In 2015 he founded performance art collective Broken Toaster Records, with which he has performed in many different spaces. In 2018 he had his first solo at RUIS in Nijmegen and he was a resident at Productiehuis Plaatsmaken in 2019.
