Ceramics are an ancient medium for stories, messages and crafts. My work is a contemporary interpretation of this. In a time when stories, messages and crafts are fleetingly stored and just as quickly fade away, it is important to capture the present in a medium that will endure beyond the current zeitgeist.
My practice involves craftsmanship, both two- and three-dimensional. Developing an authentic technique plays a significant role in my work. By combining a two-dimensional craft with a three-dimensional form, I encounter surprising results. I do this by carving plaster molds, which originated from my earlier fascination with printmaking. In order to remain engaged with my own work, it is important for me to explore the boundaries of craftsmanship and materials. Through research and making, I arrive at the form and image. I allow myself to be surprised by the outcome.
I hope to touch the viewer with recognition and to take them along into the time we live in now, without attaching a heavy message to it. The images I collect reflect the time with lightness, the everyday, and sometimes brush against humour or the absurd.
