Koos shares a booth with Jonat Deelstra
As an actor, I take on different roles in my own paintings, often featuring my characteristic stubble (and sometimes my double chin), while building a narrative that balances between truth and imagination. In my series of self-portraits called ‘I Don’t Care If They’re Just Beautiful Lies’, religious and mythical stories mix with everyday scenes. For instance, there’s the last beer of the night, which is rarely actually the last one, and the relentless thirst that follows a night out. The next morning, you gulp down water, feeling sick and hunched over the faucet as if your life depends on it. I find a compelling beauty in the interplay between suffering and pleasure throughout these experiences.
