Kunrad calls himself a sound artist and composer. He obtained his bachelor in Composition Electronic Music at the School of the Arts, Utrecht. In 2018 he graduated in ArtScience at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. For his graduation work, he won many prizes including the Heden Startprize 2018, awarded annually by Heden to a talented alumnus of the KABK.
Kunrad makes sound art installations from paper. In our daily life, paper is mainly functional. Kunrad, however, uses the properties of paper as a sound source. The qualities of paper are diverse: repellent, absorbent, light, stiff, translucent, matt, reflective, dull and crackling. Paper is also an active medium, prone to change: foldable, fragile and sounding. Sound is the basis of his installations; paper is given the role of amplifier of the sound. So object, implementer, method, environment, time and receiver play a role in the experience he calls SISE (Structural Immersive Sound Experience).
