Lionel Plak is a 38 year old artist who is fascinated by transportation: he draws, metoculously, subway lines, tram- and  busstops, flight routes and logos of airlines. He loves to travel by subway and tram, and prefers to sit opposite of the travel direction, so that street scenes pass by.

For Plak, the network the network of lines, stops and routes is always ‘in transit’, literally: he often checkes on internet whether there have been updates, which he will apply in new or existing drawings. The North/South line in Amsterdam, which took 20 years to complete, has been occupying his mind for a long time: next to it being a great new adventure, it also meant loss: the close down of bus route 32. By way of saying goodbye Lionel and his mother took one more ride with bus 32, in the week before the opening of the North/South line, on July 21st 2018.

Lionel Plak’s drawings have been exhibited in the Outsider Art Museum (located in the Hermitage) in Amsterdam, in the Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai, and at theOutsider Art Fair in Paris. On Saturday august 4th we exhibited 13 drawings at  HE.RO gallery in Amsterdam.
