LUDWIG VOLBEDA (1990) lives and works in his studio in Amsterdam, where he spends his days working in small sketchbooks, making series of drawings and illustrating books.
Ludwig likes to fill every millimeter of his walls and notebooks with notes, stories, drawings, sketches and cartoons. His books are complex and carefully detailed. He enjoys hiding small coding and scripts in them, such as morse code and moon type, The pages are packed with drawings shifting through formats; from comic panels to faux sheet music. Comics inspire him to experiment with the unique aesthetics of sequential art: the timing, framing and rhythm of images. In his drawings, he likes to play with the combination of text and image.
He has won the ‘Fiep Westendorp Award’, an award for young and promising artists, the ‘Gouden Lijst’, the prize for the Best Youth Book of the Netherlands and the ‘Gouden Penseel’, the prize for the Best Illustrated Children’s Book.
