I see the world as a collage of systems; constructs through which we manoeuvre on a daily basis. I respond to these constructs and facades, and focus in particular on architecture and language.
When creating new work, I sample from work I’ve created before. Because of this, my work overlaps and samples images from the entire process. Paper has a concrete print or structure, concrete has been cast in paper moulds, steel is an enlargement of the structure of paper, etc. All are interactions between provisional materials (pencil, marker, A4 sized paper, bits of wood) and architectural materials (the space itself, structures within the space, concrete, tarp, metal). The qualities that define these materials overlap repeatedly, which blurs the lines between them and makes it possible to perceive the space or object from more than one perspective.http://www.maaikekramer.nl
