I am in love with nature, it is the base for my work. A recurring theme is the Turtle.
Diving in the Red Sea in ‘92, I encountered a large turtle that looked me straight in the eye and then continued its journey. For me, it was an unforgettable and very emotional moment. Now, when I feel down or low in inspiration I can think back at this particular event: it still moves me.
I depict the imaginary world in the turtle’s dreams. This wonderful animal always carries its own, safe home with it. Yet the turtle dreams of building a house or designing its own clothing line. In my work these dreams mostly become visible as abstract images, but sometimes the shape of the shell is clearly present.
I work with textiles, I draw and work in ceramics, graphics, bronze, photography, watercolour, collage and performance. My work is associative and often created without a preconceived plan. Being a multi-disciplinary artist, I continuously work on my visual universe, which I call ‘Turtle Culture’.
