I believe the world around us is a constant reminder that we’re all going to die. I see it as my job to reflect on this given fact. By rearranging everyday encounters, I’m seeking for alternative ways to deal with the inevitable. Why wait for the birds to shit on your car? Thematically, my works can often be seen as a vanitas, however, you won’t see skulls and dead flowers. With humour and fiction, I’m trying to keep the works cheerful, using every medium necessary to make you and myself feel at ease. Red wine perfectly spilt on a handmade sheep wool tapestry stimulates us to embrace the stain. A black car hood is painted with a permanent bird poop pattern where a white car hood is decorated with a muddy painting, representing fate and destiny.
My work frequently asks me to do a performance, to which I dutifully obey. As a performer I try to be the ambassador of the artwork, patiently looking for the right voice to tell the story.
