Let’s Postulate That Being Born Is An Inconvenience

At the moment I am:
928610910 seconds or
15476848 minutes and 30 seconds or
257947 hours, 28 minutes and 30 seconds or
10747 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes and 30 seconds or
1535 weeks, 2 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes and 30 or seconds or
353 months, 0 weeks, 4 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes and 30 seconds or
29 years, 5 months, 0 weeks, 4 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes and 30 seconds old.
I made up the balance of my life, but why all this? Because I was born.
So here we are, here and now, but now it’s already over. It’s over the moment you think about it. It is already a part of the past, but the past cannot be changed and the only thing we have left is the future. Words I have spoken cannot be undone, just like my previous actions; they have been done. Irreversibly. Even when we stand still, we are still moving. There is no way to stop this, but we can capture it, to save it for the time being.
Why are we here? This existential question forms the core from which further research and work originates. I use objects, situations and observations from daily life and (pseudo) science to show the paradoxical nature that life has for me. I search for meaning: sometimes it seems like it can be created, but if it escapes me, it seems like it never existed.
I try to show this paradox; giving meaning through my artistry and creating meaning in the work I create. At the same time, I keep asking the question time and time again, because the question cannot really be answered. This expresses the existential and personal nature of my work.
The inconvenience of being born comes with life, and life comes with love and loss, social pressure and expectations. We can always keep up appearances, pretend that everything is fine. Never knowing what is going to happen, everything and nothing at the same time, but usually restless. Living in a haze, trying to forget reality and to escape.
Despite my frequent use of lens-based media, I do not call myself a “photographer” in the medium-specific sense of the word. Performance, photography, film, installation and text are part of my explorations. The scope of instruments offers a wider spectrum to understand the circumstances of my / our existence.mauricenuiten.nl/
