A curtain fluttering from a window with a yellowed pattern. A pile of worn-out bicycles in front of a student house. Sloppily parked wheelie bins and front gardens with broken garden furniture between windblown weeds. Windowsill ornaments and tile gardens. It is these small choices that arise from the reality of living in a place that makes public space intriguing. Not the Utopian vision of the architect, but rather the need for comfort and domesticity of the inhabitants. Laziness and makeshift solutions. In architectural photographs, windows are often reflective surfaces that emphasise form and regularity, while in real life there is a different curtain behind each window and the appearance is alive and irregular. The use of a building or public space determines its atmosphere and expressiveness more than the vision of the architect. They are images of small moments of civil disobedience, traces of the past and irregularities in the system of park services and utility work. These are the micro-interventions I want to place on a pedestal.
