The series ‘Tidal Movements’ was created during my stay in northern Norway in the middle of winter. Slowly, the sun began to return above the horizon. In that slow light, I observed the landscape – the movement of water, wind, and salt. The emptiness, the space.
I work with analogue photography, using positive photographic paper in a field camera. Each exposure lasts several seconds. The work takes shape through a rhythm of actions: loading, exposing, developing. During the developing process, I worked with seaweed and seawater. In this way, the sea returns to the work – which continues to respond, shift, and change. It is a slow, repetitive process in which time is not only captured, but also forms itself within the material.
I explore our relationship to natural rhythms. In the presentation, I create a new space, where one ends, the other continues. The tides, the coming and going of the sea – they are cycles that began long before us, and will continue long after us.
