FIRE SALE! Everything had to go.
Transport infrastructure? Sold. The financial system and mobile communication? We’re all out. Yes, even our public utilities. Water, gas and electricity; gone.
What once was a modern global civilisation has been reset to a hunter-gatherer society. None of us really remembers what life was like before supermarkets, factories, cargo trains and information superhighways. Some hope that, with ritualistic acts, we can bring back what once brought us such prosperity. But let’s face it: where we once reached for the stars, we now look at them for answers. We have to embrace the fact that to reconnect with our natural environment, we have to reinvent ourselves. Amongst the leftover rubble of consumer products in our new urban ecosystem, life will find a way. A post-globalist tribe.
In my work I create platforms where I can connect with others. The post-apocalyptic scenario described above forms the basis for a series of collaborations that I host. By inviting fellow artists over to my studio for a weekend-long ‘play date’, we get to fantasise about what life would be like in such a setting. During this three-day period, we play in order to create a new addition to the project’s mythology and add to its depiction.
The fellow artists are:
Hannah Joka (AKI ArtEZ 2017)
Jelle van Assem (AKI ArtEZ 2019)
Robbert Brinkman (AKV Sint Joost 2017)
