Patricia Paludanus has worked in many media but, to her own surprise, eventually returned to the simple material of her youth. Picked up during a search for a childhood magic that had seemed lost, the coloured pencil proved to be a key, unlocking an uncharted universe which she has been exploring since. In a process of free association, she draws herself back to an early way of seeing, using an intense technique that transforms the paper into a glowing skin and turns colour into a physical experience. The evocative ‘mindscapes’ that emerge are windows onto an inner landscape that, in its layering, transcends the univocal and individual and in which new spaces keep opening up, inviting the viewer to enter.
