”I need an Eglo banker lamp to create a nice emerald glow on my desk. It will help me create a stoic mood which will aid me in my intellectual endeauvours. On my desk is a black and white portrait of me in an armchair. Being smart and looking smart go hand in hand. Yet, I’m not an academic. I’m just trying to deal with the fact that everything is endlessly complicated.”

Romar de Bonte is an Arnhem based artist. His work often starts by a desire to grasp the world in all its complexity. Or even better: his work starts with his inability to do so. What can you do when you conclude that you will never understand everything, or even anything? Romar’s work resides somewhere between theoretical research, pseudo-intellectualism, sculpture, installation and film. It shows an endless philosophical endeavour, but it is also a celebration of it.
