Rosa Everts explores themes like absence, emptiness and invisibilty. She tries to capture these concepts in seemingly subjectless drawings and installations. She deliberately keeps the subjects as futile as possible: a tabletop with blank paper, a floor covered with shredded paper, a room with packed boxes, the window of a shut-down store. The works evoke an eery emptiness, but the longer you look, the more interesting details you will find.
Slowly the viewer’s focus shifts towards the materiality of the work (photo-drawing-collage), and the question arises: which reality are you looking at? The artist challenges the viewer to take in every detail in the space, and question it; am I looking at something that is drawn, a photo, or something else? By using materials from the real world as a collage, like newspapers, threads, tea labels and tape, the viewer is pleasantly confused.
